Reckless Driver Sought after Injuring Councilman and Wife
Accident investigators are searching for a driver whose reckless actions may have been a factor in a serious car accident that injured former Astoria city councilman Donald Morden and Anna Morden, his wife.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP), the Oregon car crash occurred on Highway 105, which is also referred to as the business section of Highway 101, on Tuesday afternoon, June 14, around 3:30 p.m. Morden was traveling north on the highway, driving a small Toyota pickup truck, when the driver of a Toyota Corolla suddenly pulled directly into the path of the pickup truck, causing Morden to have to come to an abrupt stop. Then, the truck was rear-ended and pushed into the median of the highway by a loaded log truck driven by Kenneth Ness, also of Astoria.
Both Morden and his wife had to be removed from the pickup truck by personnel from the Astoria Fire Department. Morden’s wife had to be taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center via helicopter and is reported to be in critical condition, while Morden was taken to the same hospital via ambulance and is listed in serious condition. Ness was uninjured in the collision.
Accident investigators report the Toyota Corolla is believed to be a newer model and dark gray in color. Anyone who has information regarding the car accident is asked to contact the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3720.
