Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident on Highway 211

Date: March 22, 2011
Location: Highway 211 West of Molalla
Names: Thomas Christopher Mossman

Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate a Portland bicycle accident that left a male bicyclist hospitalized. OSP is requesting that anyone with information on the crash call the Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888.

On Tuesday, March 22 at about 3:30 pm, Thomas Christopher Mossman, age 67 of Molalla, was struck as he was riding westbound on a dark-colored bicycle on Highway 211 west of S. Palmer Road near milepost 10. The unidentified driver of what is thought to be a sport utility vehicle continued in a westerly direction without stopping.

Evidence that police discovered at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle should have damage to the right front headlight, is missing the passenger-side mirror, and maybe missing some of the moldings on the right-side door. The molding left at the scene was silver or gray in color. It is not known whether the driver was a male or female.

Mossman was airlifted to Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). He was wearing a bicycle helmet and had been on his way to a friend’s house only 50 yards from the scene of the crash. OHSU reported that he was in intensive care.

We hope that Mr. Mossman will experience a complete and full recovery from this unfortunate accident, and we know that there are many others who wish him well.

In the middle of the afternoon on a busy highway, someone must have seen something that could help police find this hit-and-run driver. Hit-and-run is a serious violation of Oregon Vehicle Code 811.705. The hit-and-run driver must be held civilly and criminally responsible for his/her actions. In a case like this, Mr. Mossman or his family may be well advised to contact a reputed personal injury attorney with experience in hit-and-run crashes who will fight for the justice and compensation that he deserves. At DuBois Law Group, we believe that what happened to Mr. Mossman is simply unacceptable; and as Portland personal injury lawyers we are committed to making sure that hit-and-run drivers are held accountable for their actions and that victims receive the compensation they deserve.
