04/25/11

Date: April 11, 2011
Location: Oregon 213 at Liberal, between Molalla and Oregon City
Names: Bruce Wayne Turner, Fernando Castenada

A man was killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer rig.

Bruce Wayne Turner, age 55, of Molalla, died when his 1990 Oldsmobile crossed the center line near Milepost 12 on Oregon 213 at about 10:25am and crashed into an approaching tractor-trailer rig.

Traffic was shut down in both directions while police investigated the Oregon truck accident scene.

Fernando Castenada, age 38, of Pomona, California, was the driver of the 2005 Freightliner truck. Castenada was uninjured and is not expected to face charges. Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said of Castenada: “We’ve determined that the driver of the trailer wasn’t at fault, and we also don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in this accident.”

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and police are unsure why Turner’s vehicle crossed into the tractor-trailer’s path.

We send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Turner’s family after this sudden and tragic accident. Losing a loved one changes lives forever, and we hope that they will receive the support they need in the difficult days ahead. We also send our thoughts to Mr. Castenada, and hope he can recover from what must have been a traumatic experience.
