Car Collision on Highway 26 Results in Injury

01/19/11

Date: December 26, 2010
Location: Seaside, OR
Names: Ahmed Maki Alhakeem, Paul T. Bobzien, Hassan Maki A. Alhakim, Ali Hussain Almubarak

One person was injured when the car he was a passenger in collided with a pickup truck on a section of Highway 26 east of Seaside.

According to Oregon State Police Trooper Jessica Spurlock, on December 26, 2010 at about 2:28 p.m. a 2002 Ford Mustang driven by Ahmed Maki Alhakeem, age 28, of Northeast Portland, was driving west on Highway 26 near milepost 10. Alhakeem was driving too fast for the conditions on the hail-covered roadway, lost control of the car and skidded across all four lanes toward the eastbound shoulder. A 2007 Dodge 2500 pickup driven by Paul T. Bobzien, age 45, from Hillsboro, was heading east and was unable to avoid the Mustang. Both vehicles collided with such force that the Ford Mustang’s rear axle and floor separated from the rest of the body.

A rear passenger in the Mustang, Hassan Maki A. Alhakim, age 23, from Saudi Arabia, was injured and transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released a few hours later. Alhakeem and another passenger identified as Ali Hussain Almubarak, age 24 of Monmouth, were uninjured. Bobzien was not injured.

All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and the airbags deployed in the Dodge pickup.

Alhakeem was cited for Careless Driving.

Fortunately for everyone, nobody was seriously hurt in this Oregon car accident. For the Mustang’s rear axle and floor to separate from the car chassis, speed had to have been a factor. The Oregon Dept of Transportation Safety reports that in 2008 alone, speed-related accidents killed 216 Oregonians. That number far exceeds the amount of drunk driving fatalities! But, as always, law enforcement is in full effect, and the Oregon State Police are continually looking for ways to both protect the innocent and punish those who endanger lives. If caught, you could lose your license, receive an expensive ticket, or go to jail.
