01/13/11

Date: December 29, 2010
Location: McMinnville, OR
Names:Hye Kyung Kang, Erica Nada, Kevin G. Caulfield, Edward C. Rosera

According to an Oregon State Police news release: At approximately 3:35am on December 29 a 2005 Hyundai driven by Erica Nada, age 49 of Beaverton, was heading west on Highway 18 near milepost 49 when it crossed over the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2009 Freightliner truck pulling a tanker trailer driven by Kevin G. Caulfield, age 45 of Newberg.

After the initial crash the Hyundai came to rest in the westbound lane of traffic and was then struck by a westbound 2000 Freightliner pulling a semi-trailer driven by Edward C. Rosera, age 64 of Woodburn.

Both the Hyundai and 2000 Freightliner truck and trailer came to a rest in the westbound shoulder ditch. The 2009 Freightliner driven by Caulfield came to rest in the eastbound shoulder ditch, caught fire and was totally damaged, although the McMinnville Fire Department was able to respond and put out the fire.

Ms. Nada and her passenger Hye Kyung Kang, age 60 of Beaverton, were transported by McMinnville Ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville. Kang died after arriving at the hospital and Nada, who was driving with a suspended driver’s license, was seriously injured.

Both truck drivers were uninjured. All four people involved in this deadly Oregon car crash were using safety restraints.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of the accident.

Our hearts go out to the family of Hye Kyung Kang, and hope that the others involved in this tragic accident will recover fully.
