How Much Does it Cost to Hire a Portland Personal Injury Lawyer?

Portland injury lawyer First of all, make sure you do your research, and ask around before hiring a lawyer. The typical Portland attorney fees for personal injury cases is a one-third contingency fee: that is, your lawyer gets one-third of the total money that you get. This is called a contingency fee because the lawyers’ pay is contingent upon getting you a settlement. But some firms offer different payment options, and you may be able to find one that is more well-suited to your needs than the one-third (33%) arrangement.

Attorney Fee: the compensation a lawyer receives for legal services performed, in or out of court; can be an hourly rate, a flat rate, or a contingency fee. Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis.

However, be careful in negotiating with your lawyer. If you have a serious injury, you don’t want a discount lawyer. And if you are able to out-negotiate your lawyer, think twice about whether you want to hire that person!

How much do Portland attorney fees cost? That’s up to you: you can choose an hourly rate or a contingency fee, but you can also try to lower either of these by speaking with an attorney. But the contingency fee requires no payments up front, and ensures that the attorney will try to get you as much as possible to ensure that they get all their fees paid for all the time they’ve spent on your case.

Case costs are the expenses the law firm will have to pay to build your case. Costs include many different expenses, but common ones include: postage, court filing fees, hiring investigators, medical records, and paying experts to testify during trial.

Your attorney fees and costs will, if the case is settled successfully, be paid by the settlement. Our goal is to make sure all your case costs are covered by the settlement so that you never have to pay us out of pocket. The attorneys’ fees will be covered under the Contingent Fee Agreement you will sign, and the case costs will be advanced to you.

At DuBois Law Group, You Don’t Pay Anything Upfront

At DuBois Law Group, all case costs are advanced to you 100% interest-free except in certain rare circumstances. And, even if we do not win your case, you will only have to pay us back “to the extent of your ability to pay.” We interpret this in a way that is as advantageous to our clients as possible. And so far, we have never asked a client to pay us back for costs out of their pocket; we have only ever taken costs out of money that is paid by the insurance company. Plus, if you do not win, we promise to never charge any attorney fees – this is our Portland injury lawyer promise.

Contingency fee agreements outline the percentage of the award that your attorney will receive from the settlement. At DuBois Law Group, we generally charge 33% before trial, and 40% in the rare cases that go to trial (or very close to it), which is an industry-standard. These agreements mean you do not have to pay a retainer and your attorney has a vested interest in getting you as much money as possible.

Please remember: we generally do not take a case unless we believe we can win. So you will be able to hire an attorney without having to pay any attorneys’ fees up front out of pocket, you will very likely have case costs advanced interest-free, and usually, both attorneys’ fees and case costs will be taken out of the settlement. This leaves you free to focus on recovering from your injury instead of on financial stress.

At DuBois Law Group, our promise to you is that we will never collect an unreasonable fee. In most cases, we will work on a contingency fee basis and our services will not cost you anything up front, which can be helpful if you are facing financial difficulties after an accident.
