Seg\u00fan OregonLive.com, Andrew Johnston, de 25 a\u00f1os y oriundo de Forest Grove, fue arrestado el 21 de septiembre de 2009, por conducir ebrio en un accidente<\/a> en el que, afortunadamente, nadie result\u00f3 gravemente herido. Pero no era la primera vez que lo acusaban. Johnston tuvo al menos otros dos arrestos por conducir ebrio, incluido un accidente hace cinco a\u00f1os que dej\u00f3 a un amigo paralizado.<\/p>\n

La polic\u00eda dice que Johnston conduc\u00eda ebrio aproximadamente a las 2:39 a. m. cuando estuvo involucrado en un accidente de un solo veh\u00edculo en 26745 SW Farmington Road en Hillsboro. Johnston no llevaba pasajeros en su veh\u00edculo al momento del accidente. \nEl sargento David Thompson de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Washington le dijo a The Oregonian<\/em> que los agentes encontraron la Oldsmobile Bravada de 1994 de Johnston volcada en una zanja. Johnston, que sufri\u00f3 lesiones que no ponen en peligro su vida, fue atendido en el Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. Este arresto sirve como un sombr\u00edo recordatorio de los resultados de conducir en estado de ebriedad. Seg\u00fan Madres Contra Conductores Ebrios (MADD, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), cada 45 minutos una persona muere a causa de un conductor ebrio, y el a\u00f1o pasado se estima que 11,773 personas fallecieron en accidentes relacionados con el alcohol. Sin embargo, las cifras de 2008 reflejan una disminuci\u00f3n del 9.8 por ciento respecto a las 13,041 fatalidades registradas en 2007.<\/p>\n

El historial de infracciones repetidas de Johnston no es \u00fanico. MADD informa que incluso entre los conductores ebrios a quienes se les suspende la licencia, entre el 50 y el 75 por ciento contin\u00faan conduciendo.<\/p>\n

Este accidente pudo haber sido mucho peor y haber causado lesiones graves. Agradecemos que nadie resultara gravemente herido o muriera en este accidente.
