By presidential proclamation, December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention, or 3D, Month. Every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan has affirmed his commitment to stop drunk driving with this annual observance.

\nAs for us? We think it\u2019s such a great idea that we\u2019re lifting a glass \u2013 of sparkling water. OK, we may tip a glass of wine, but we won’t be driving. We hope you\u2019ll join us in making these holidays truly memorable by doing everything you can to prevent drunk and drugged driving this holiday, and in 2010.<\/p>\n

The numbers behind drunk and drugged driving are staggering. Countless lives are lost, and even more people are seriously injured, sometimes permanently.<\/p>\n

According to the Centers for Disease Control, every day in the U.S. 36 people die, and approximately 700 are injured, in car crashes involving impaired drivers. While some crashes might involve other factors as well, it\u2019s probably safe to say that most of that death, and most of that pain, was entirely preventable.<\/p>\n

Think about it: Getting behind the wheel when you\u2019re impaired not only puts your life at risk, it risks the lives of so many others, even children.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s only one way to stop drunk driving, and that\u2019s by each of us taking on the individual responsibility to not do it. Put down those keys. Designate a driver. Opt to walk. Whatever it takes. And let\u2019s not rest until there are no more deaths from intoxicated drivers.<\/p>\n
