{"id":4130,"date":"2011-09-16T09:43:48","date_gmt":"2011-09-16T16:43:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pdxinjurylaw.com\/?p=4130"},"modified":"2025-05-05T05:09:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T12:09:31","slug":"national-child-passenger-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pdxinjurylaw.com\/es\/national-child-passenger-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Semana nacional de la seguridad del ni\u00f1o pasajero: del 19 al 25 de septiembre de 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During National Child Passenger Safety Week, we encourage all Portland parents to educate themselves about how to ride with children safely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), in 2008 there were 4 children under the age of 14 killed in motor vehicle crashes EVERY DAY. This number might seem extremely high, but it\u2019s important to know that use of a safety restraint also saved the lives of an estimated 244 children under age 14 as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of injury in children. For infants, they reduce the risk of death by 71% and for toddlers (ages 1-4) they reduce the risk of death by 54%. For children ages 4 to 7, when parents start taking their children out of safety seats, the use of booster seats reduced injuries by 59&amp; when compared to just using safety belts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Child Safety Reminders:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Children 12 and under should always ride in the backseat.<\/li>\n<li>Infants, even in rear-facing car seats, should never ride in the front seat, especially if the car has airbags.<\/li>\n<li>Until age 1 (or 20 lbs.) a child is best protected in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of the car.<\/li>\n<li>Until age 4 (or 40 lbs.), a child is best protected in a forward-facing car seat in the back seat of the car.<\/li>\n<li>Until age 8 (or a height of 4\u20199\u201d), a child is best protected in a booster seat\u00a0 in\u00a0 the back seat until they can ride with the safety belt properly positioned across their chest (with the belt laying across the upper thighs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For more information about safety procedures and possible risks, visit the Child Passenger Safety: Fact Sheet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Durante la Semana Nacional de la Seguridad del Ni\u00f1o Pasajero, animamos a todos los padres de Portland a educarse sobre c\u00f3mo viajar con ni\u00f1os de forma segura.
