A woman was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck.
\nOregon State Police have not yet identified the 74-year-old woman pedestrian. Emergency responders were called to North Elm Street and Second Avenue at approximately 4:30pm on Friday March 25. The woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a Ford Ranger pickup.<\/p>\n

The driver of the pickup truck stopped and has been cooperating with the police investigation. No citations were immediately issued.<\/p>\n

Our thoughts and prayers are with the woman pedestrian as she recovers from her injuries. We hope that she will recover fully, and that she knows how many people are holding her in their thoughts also.
\nAlthough we don\u2019t know all of the facts in this accident, we do commend the driver of the pickup for stopping and cooperating with police. We have seen too many tragic aftermaths of pedestrian hit-and-run accidents, and this driver did the right thing by stopping after the crash.<\/p>\n

Remember that in a car vs. pedestrian crash, the pedestrian always loses, even if they are not found to be at fault. Drivers owe it to pedestrians to be alert \u2013 crosswalk or not, you are bigger, heavier, and are going faster. And pedestrians owe it to themselves to be cautious when crossing a street. Even if the law is on your side, that can\u2019t stop a driver from injuring you.<\/p>\n
