A log truck driver was injured seriously when he crashed into the back of a disabled chip trailer on Highway 30 east of Astoria.<\/p>\n

According to Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Jim Pierce on December 8, 2010 at about 9:14am, Scott J. Lavender, age 38 of Chehalis, Washington was seated inside a disabled truck pulling a chip trailer as it was parked in the right hand eastbound lane of Highway 30 near milepost 84. Lavender was waiting for a mechanic to repair the truck that had broken down about an hour earlier, but he failed to put required emergency warning devices on the highway behind his vehicles.<\/p>\n

A vehicle driving east in front of an unloaded log truck driven by James D. Sollars, age 38 of Astoria, swerved to avoid the rear of Lavender\u2019s trailer. Sollars, a driver for J.M. Browning Logging, wasn\u2019t able to avoid the trailer and crashed into the back of it.<\/p>\n

Sollars was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland with serious injuries; he was using safety restraints. According to The Daily Astorian<\/em>, he underwent surgery and was last reported in good condition. Lavender was uninjured and was cited by OSP for Failure to Place Emergency Warning Devices on a Highway.<\/p>\n

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Astoria Area Command office are completing the investigation.<\/p>\n
