A 21-year-old man died August 25, 2010, in a two-car crash on an I-5 overpass near Winston, Oregon, according to an OSP press release.<\/p>\n

Around 8:45 AM, a car driven by Kindall S. Baker, 25, of Winston, was on the Highway 42 overpass, preparing to enter I-5, as a car driven by Justin M. Burkett, 21, of Roseburg, was exiting.<\/p>\n

On a sweeping curve, the car driven by Burkett crossed the double solid center line, and crashed head-on into the car driven by Baker.<\/p>\n

Burkett was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.<\/p>\n

Baker, who was using safety restraints, sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.<\/p>\n

OSP troopers and a collision reconstructionist were joined at the scene by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and local emergency responders. The crash investigation closed the Highway 42 overpass for approximately three hours.<\/p>\n

We send condolences to the Burkett family as they remember Justin, a young man described as big-hearted and generous in the Douglas County News-Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Burkett was a 2007 graduate of Days Creek High School who excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. He worked as a technician at Barbar Web Company, and in his spare time he enjoyed hunting and tinkering on his car. He is survived by a large circle of family and friends, including his father and stepmother, Charles and Rhonda Burkett.<\/p>\n
