Oregon 6, a High Priority Safety Problem, Is Once Again the Scene of a Serious Single-Vehicle Accident

A stretch of Oregon 6, recently identified by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) as a trouble spot for crashes, claimed its most recent victim March 5th when a Vancouver man drove his 2002 Ford Explorer off the roadway, struck a guardrail, and rolled over into a ditch. Oregon Live <\/i>reported that the man\u2019s three children, ages five, two, and six months were with him at the time.\u00a0 Two of the children escaped with minor injuries<\/a>; but the two-year-old, who was ejected from the SUV, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV, who suffered minor injuries for which he refused to seek treatment, was arrested for impaired driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment of another and fourth-degree assault.<\/p>\n

According to ODOT, the stretch of roadway where this particular incident occurred had previously been designated as a high priority safety problem and is slated to have corrective road construction work begin soon. In anticipation of the beginning of the $7.5 million project, state police, just last week stationed extra law enforcement on Oregon 6<\/a> in an effort to avoid such accidents like the one on Tuesday. The extra police presence on Oregon 6 was authorized to concentrate their efforts on the highway \u201cfrom beyond Banks to west of the Browns Camp Area\u201d where numerous head-on, sideswiping and single vehicle accidents have occurred.<\/p>\n
