According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, each year approximately<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><strong>1.4 million<\/strong> people sustain a TBI<\/li>\n<li><strong>50,000<\/strong> of TBI sufferers die, of which <strong>2,685<\/strong> are <strong>children ages 0-14<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>235,000<\/strong> people are hospitalized for TBI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/TraumaticBrainInjury\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> also estimate that <strong>5.3 million<\/strong> people in the United States currently have a &#8220;long-term or lifelong need for help to perform activities of daily living as a result of TBI.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Traffic crashes are a leading cause of TBI: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/traumatic-brain-injury\/basics\/causes\/CON-20029302\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, <strong>half of all traumatic brain injuries are caused by collisions involving cars, motorcycles and bicycles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms of brain injuries include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chronic headaches<\/li>\n<li>Memory loss<\/li>\n<li>Stiff neck<\/li>\n<li>Mala pronunciaci\u00f3n<\/li>\n<li>Mood swings<\/li>\n<li>Behavioral changes<\/li>\n<li>Irritabilidad<\/li>\n<li>Loss of hearing, vision, taste, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Convulsiones<\/li>\n<li>Speech and language problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Brain Injury symptoms in children<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Listlessness or tiredness<\/li>\n<li>Irritabilidad<\/li>\n<li>Changes in skills and functions (eating patterns, sleep, interaction, or school performance)<\/li>\n<li>Loss of interest in favorite activities and toys<\/li>\n<li>Loss of new skills and motor skills ( walking, balancing)<\/li>\n<li>Vomiting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Brain injuries are a serious matter. Whenever you receive a blow to the head you should contact your doctor. If the blow is serious it would be wise to go to an emergency room right away. You cannot always detect if you or a loved one has received a brain injury.<\/p>\n<p>Causes of traumatic brain injury include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motor vehicle accidents (17.3%)<\/li>\n<li>Falls (35.2%)<\/li>\n<li>Struck by\/Against an object (16.5%)<\/li>\n<li>Assault (10%)<\/li>\n<li>Other (21%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If you or someone you love has been in a serious car crash, make sure to get an evaluation for TBI.
